Bringing her grandson Doan Duc Thinh from Long Thanh (Dong Nai) to the preliminary ceremony and meeting Dr. Dau again, Mrs. Duong Thi Ngoc Dung could not hold back her tears.

Ms. Dung said that in 2011, not long after her daughter-in-law’s joy of being pregnant, her whole family almost had a mental breakdown when the fetal diagnosis showed that the baby had a cleft lip deformity.

The baby’s grandmother recalls that the day Thinh was born, every time she looked at her baby’s deep lip, she cried, and the baby’s parents often had red eyes.

`Hope flashed when we learned that Children’s Hospital 1 could treat the baby. So at just 3 months old, through the hands of Dr. Dau and the doctors, like a miracle, my baby’s deformed lip became normal.

Ut and her husband were happy to have their son’s lip repaired.

With the same joy as Mrs. Dung, bringing her child to meet her benefactor, Dr. Dau and the people in the surgical team to repair the baby’s lips in early 2013, Ms. Tran Thi Hai Huyen, mother of baby Nguyen Duc Quan (District 12), did not either.

Discovering that their child had a cleft lip at 20 weeks of pregnancy, Huyen and her husband no longer had the spirit to do anything.

These thoughts have motivated doctors to try to find treatment solutions for children born with smile defects.

`Mr. Buddha` and the patient.

As a leader in examination, consultation and treatment, having performed more than 2,000 surgeries in 5 years, Dr. Dau affirms that he only contributes a small part in a team of many doctors and nurses who love children.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Director of Children’s Hospital 1, after the free surgery program for 2,000 children with cleft lip and palate, the hospital continues to call on charitable organizations to sponsor the children, especially those with disabilities.

At Children’s Hospital 1, children not only receive plastic surgery, but also receive coordinated pronunciation treatment (speech therapy).
