President Trump was officially impeached

(Dan Tri) – This morning, Vietnam time, Mr. Donald Trump officially became the third president in US history to be impeached after the House of Representatives voted to pass two articles of impeachment against the head of the government.

After a debate lasting more than 6 hours and a historic vote, the US House of Representatives passed the first article of impeachment against US President Donald Trump in a vote held on the evening of the 18th.

According to Reuters, the US House of Representatives passed the article of impeachment for abuse of power against President Trump with a vote of 230, surpassing the minimum number of 216 votes needed to impeach the president.

With the article of impeachment obstructing parliament in the vote immediately afterward, the House of Representatives passed it with 229 votes in favor.

With the above voting results, Mr. Trump was officially impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Thus, Mr. Trump became the third president in US history to be impeached after the House of Representatives voted to approve the articles of impeachment against him.

After more than 6 hours of debate and two votes, the US House of Representatives stopped meeting at 9:00 p.m. local time on December 18 and is expected to meet again at 9:00 a.m. the next morning to complete the remaining steps to prepare for the session.

House lawmakers will debate to vote on a resolution to elect an impeachment committee consisting of a small group of Democratic lawmakers who will act as prosecutors in Mr. Trump’s future trial in the Senate.

Trial in the Senate

According to the process, after the House of Representatives passes the impeachment of the president, a trial will take place in the Republican-controlled Senate to decide whether to convict the head of the government or not.

Last week, the US House Judiciary Committee passed two articles of impeachment against Mr. Trump, including abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, after an intelligence official accused Mr. Trump of asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to help investigate.

Mr. Trump is the third president in US history to be impeached.
