Acne treatment methods

Doctor Dang Thi Ngoc Bich, Department of Dermatology – Skin Aesthetics, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said acne is an inflammatory skin condition that mainly affects the face, chest, and back.

Below are effective acne treatment methods in puberty that patients can refer to:

Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid

These are two popular over-the-counter acne treatments.

Benzoyl peroxide is a stronger treatment for more severe, red, inflamed acne that helps dry out dead skin cells, control excess sebum, and kill acne-causing bacteria.

Acne can cause inflammation, pain, and discomfort.

Benzoyl peroxide is a strong active ingredient so it can cause skin rashes and irritation, so apply it once at the beginning of use, then increase to twice a day.

Retinoids

If benzoyl peroxide isn’t effective, your dermatologist will prescribe an acne-fighting retinoid gel or cream (which can be applied twice daily).

Isotretinoin is a retinoid that is taken daily in pill form, much stronger than topical retinoids and has some toxicity to the fetus and side effects, so it is not suitable for pregnant women, requiring prescription and monitoring by a physician.

Topical and oral antibiotics

Antibiotics help eliminate inflammatory acne caused by P. acnes bacteria.

The use of antibiotics requires an appropriate dosage, patients should see a dermatologist for accurate advice.

Wash your skin

Cleansing the skin is very important in caring for and improving acne.

You should wash your face twice a day and wash your face after exercising if you sweat.

Acne appearing a lot can make the patient lose confidence.
