Arsenal lost blankly at Dortmund

The fate of the match was decided by goals from Ciro Immobile in the 45th minute and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 48th minute.

Things could have gone in a different direction, more beneficial for Arsenal if in the 41st minute, Welbeck finished more skillfully, instead of sending the ball wide of the post when facing home goalkeeper Weidenfeller after a through ball.

Arsenal’s loose and slow defenseĀ could not keep up with the home side’s high-speed attack combinations.

In addition to the two goals of Immobile and Aubameyang, the Westfallen home team also had another time hitting the ball against Arsenal’s crossbar with Aubameyang’s cannon shot from outside the penalty area in the 67th minute. Post-match statistics also showed superiority.

Arsenal have never lost in their last six away matches against German teams, and defeated Dortmund 1-0 at Westfallen last season.

But that was the wrong choice, when Arsenal did not have the best people for the defense.

Dortmund 2-0 Arsenal

With such a disorganized defense, while Wenger’s intention to seek dominance in the middle of the field with a short, five-man midfield was ruined by the opponent’s ferocious play and speed, Arsenal were outmatched.

Four minutes before the Italian striker opened the scoring, Arsenal had the best chance of the match, but Welbeck sent the ball wide after Ramsey’s smart assist.

Welbeck in the 41st minute. This was a rare clear opportunity that Arsenal created in a match where they were completely outmatched by Dortmund.

Just three minutes after the second half started, confusion and incomprehension caused Mertesacker and goalkeeper Szczesny to rush into each other, letting the ball fly to Aubameyang’s position.

Arsenal clearly felt down in spirit after this defeat, while their opponents played like crazy.

But 2-0 was enough result for Dortmund to happily raise the flag.
