Florentino Perez – the man who brought Real through the storm

Perez first won the election as Real President by promising to recruit Luis Figo – captain of great rival Barca – in 2000. He then won five more times in the elections of 2004, 2009, 2013, 2017 and

Perez entered the television interview with utmost seriousness.

The interview was conducted in April 2021 to better inform public opinion about the Super League project.

In his home country of Spain, Perez possesses an unmatched position: President of Real Madrid, head of one of the world’s largest construction companies and always gathering elites around him in the VIP stands.

Just a few days after the interview, the fears of Perez’s partners came true: the project died prematurely after the withdrawal of English teams, then Italy, and only Real, Barcelona and Juventus remained.

Perez at the press conference announced the establishment of the Super League.

For four years, Perez implicitly showed that Real would buy Kylian Mbappe and did everything to get the signature of the French striker – a Real fan since childhood.

With a proud team like Real, two defeats called Super League and Mbappe would have turned Perez’s position around.

One year after being surpassed by the team from the same city, Real has brought the order back to the way it was before.

The only remaining contract from Perez’s first summer as president is Karim Benzema, who is almost certainly the 2022 Golden Ball. With Vinicius Junior, Camavinga and Rodrygo, Real’s future is assured.

At 75 years old, Perez does not look vulnerable to losing his seat despite being a democratically elected president.

At the same time, captain Sergio Ramos followed suit and left.

The two legends above are not the only prominent figures of contemporary Real Madrid to be shunned by Perez.

Perez’s power at Real has grown to an absolute level, both politically and in the dressing room, enough that he doesn’t have to worry about offending the team’s legends.

At that time, Perez affirmed that it was a necessary measure to prevent foreign owners from taking over Real, but the Madrid people had a witty joke: The candidate who wants to be Real president must also work in construction.

He is also a master at shutting down criticism.

The fact that Perez chose El Chiringuito to go on air to defend the Super League is no coincidence.

Real players celebrate winning the 2021-2022 Champions League after defeating Liverpool in the final on May 28.

This allows him to run Real the way he sees fit.

That’s Perez’s special talent: no matter the circumstances, Perez will always be a winner.
